13. Goblin Slayer (Kōsuke Kurose, 2016 – Present)

Similarly, a beginner priestess joins a party of three to kill goblins in a cave. They think they will win until a group of goblins attack them and brutally kill all of them, except the priestess, who escapes the scene.  

Suddenly, a man called Goblin Slayer enters the cave, saves the priestess, kills all the goblins in the area, and saves the abducted women.

That begins the priestess’s journey with the Goblin Slayer, whose only motive in life is to take revenge on goblins for attacking his village and killing his loved ones. As a child, Lelouch vows to take revenge against his father for not taking action against his mother’s murderer. However, he loses hope and continues living as an ordinary high school student until he’s caught up in a terrorist attack and encounters a mysterious girl named C.C. 

C.C. grants him the power of “Geass,” which allows Lelouch to command anyone to do whatever he wants by looking into their eyes. Using this power, Lelouch decides to create his terrorist organization and work secretly as a vigilante called “zero” to destroy the Britannia. 

Lelouch’s journey of revenge becomes much more complicated as he has to fight against people close to him and even lose them. How far can Lelouch go to achieve his revenge?

11. Blade of the Immortal (Hiroaki Samura, 1993 – 2012)

The plot takes place in feudal Japan, where a man named “Manji” is famous for killing a hundred innocent men. Manji is a skilled samurai who’s immortal because an eight-hundred-year-old woman, Yaobikuni, gave him special bloodworms to his body, quickly healing any wounds he gets, even if it’s a shot to his head.

Manji cannot die even if he wishes to. To repent for his sins, Manji decides to kill a thousand evil men, after which Yaobikuni will free him from his immortality.  

Along his journey, Manji meets a young girl named Rin Asano, whose parents are killed by a group of strong swordsmen. 

Rin pleads to Manji to be her bodyguard for four years to assist her in taking revenge on her parent’s murderers. This begins the dangerous journey of Manji and Rin, filled with violence and bloodshed as they struggle to attain revenge.

10. Rising of the Sheild Hero (Aiya Kyū, 2014 – Present)

Naofumi is a cheerful twenty-year-old Otaku who is summoned into a fantasy world in the kingdom of Melromarc. He’s one of the four cardinal heroes who fight against “Waves” that can destroy the world. 

Each hero has been given a weapon. But Naofumi is the only one given a shield, the group’s only defensive weapon, while the other three are given either a bow, sword, or spear.  

Naofumi’s party is only joined by one member, who later lies and accuses him of sexual assault and steals all his money.

Naofumi is ridiculed in front of the whole kingdom and is opposed by the other heroes. Naofumi then begins to train on his own while earning money to meet ends. He buys a demi-human girl Raphtalia and a bird called Filo, with whom he begins to train and fight against enemies. 

Together with his party members, can Naofumi improve his bad image in the country and take revenge against those who made his life miserable?

9. Seraph of the End (Takaya, Kagami, 2012 – Present)

Yūichirō Amane is an eight-year-old who lives at the Hyakuya Orphanage. One day, a pandemic suddenly broke, killing all humans aged 13 or older. The same day, vampires announced to take over the city and look after all the children. 

Yūichirō, his best friend Mikaela, and the rest of the children at their orphanage are taken by the vampires. They must live in poor conditions under their oppression and provide blood to the vampires. Mikaela steals a gun and a city map from the mansion of one of the vampire nobles.

He tries to escape from the city with the rest of his family but gets caught, which results in everyone dying. Only Yūichirō could escape to the human world. Four years later, Yūichirō is a teenager who joins a military unit to eradicate the vampires. Yūichirō will do anything to take revenge against the vampires who murdered his family. Will he become strong enough to fight against these blood-sucking monsters?

8. Fire Punch (Tatsuki Fujimoto, 2016 – 2018)

Fire Punch is set in a world where the weather has become so unbearably cold that just surviving becomes extremely difficult. Humans have started taking the most extreme measures for survival, including cannibalism. 

In the middle of this chaos, two siblings Agni and his sister Luna live peacefully in their village. Agni and Luna are among the “blessed” ones who have superpowers. These siblings have regenerative powers, so Agni cuts his arms to provide “food” to his village. 

One day, Doma, a man with the blessing to set unextinguishable fires on anyone or anything, burns down Agni’s village. Agni loses not only his village but Luna too. Although Agni is engulfed in flames, he survives because of his fast regenerative powers. 

For years, Agni travels through the land while being engulfed with flames, with only one purpose; to avenge his sister by killing Doma. Can Agni survive the flames and enemy attacks until he meets Doma and finally takes revenge?

7. Black Butler (Yana Toboso, 2006 – Present)

On his tenth birthday, Ciel Phantomhive’s mansion is attacked by unidentified people who kill his mother, father, and dog. They kidnap Ciel and sell him to a demon-worshipping cult, where he is sexually and physically abused and is given a mark. 

The cult then attempts to summon a demon by conducting a sacrificial ceremony. Ciel is waiting inside a cage to be used as a sacrifice. But when the demon arrives, he forms a contract with Ciel and kills all the cult members. Ciel tells the demon that his motive is to take revenge for his parent’s death, to which the demon agrees and asks for his soul as payment. 

Ciel returns as the head of the Phantomhive family, taking over his father’s position, and the demon now called Sebastian stays with him as his butler. As the story progresses, mysteries unfold as this duo works together to achieve their goals.

6. Claymore (Norihiro, Yagi, 2001 – 2014)

Claymore is set in a world where monsters known as “Yoma” disguise themselves as humans to kill and eat them. Villages across the land are filled with despair from losing their friends and family and fear being eaten by Yoma. The Yoma are powerful creatures that humans cannot fight against, nor can they sense their presence. 

The only one who can fight against Yoma is the organization called Claymore. Claymores are half-human, half-Yoma breeds that can sense and defeat the Yoma. Villagers pay the Claymore organization to come and kill the Yoma. However, the Claymores lose their human heart if they use their Yoma power too much. 

The plot follows the story of Clare, a Claymore that carries out various missions to kill Yoma. Her purpose in life and reason for becoming a Claymore is to take revenge against those who took her loved ones away. Can Clare complete her life’s purpose while also saving her humanity?

5. Dorohedoro (Q Hayashida, 2000 – 2018)

In the Dorohedoro plot, a dark and dirty city known as “Hole” exists where humans reside. Sorcerers from outside often enter the Hole to practice magic on humans, leaving them wounded and affected. 

Although the humans hate the sorcerers, they cannot stop themselves from being used as their practice materials. Among these humans in the Hole lies a unique duo, Caiman, a man with a reptile head, and his friend Nikaido. Caiman was a normal human until a sorcerer practiced magic on him and turned his head into a reptile, after which he lost all his memories.

Caiman and Nikaido together kill the sorcerers they come across. Surprisingly, Caiman is resistant to magic, which makes him dangerous to most sorcerers. Before killing anyone, Caiman puts the sorcerer inside his mouth and asks one question “What did the man inside say?”

4. Vinland Saga (Makoto Yukimara, 2005 – Present)

Vinland Saga is set in an era where the world is filled with Vikings engaging in wars and battles. Thorfinn is the son of one of the most skilled Vikings in the world. He’s a member of a mercenary band led by the Askeladd. Although Thorfinn works in his band and carries out his tasks, like killing army generals and fighting battles for Askeladd, his motives are much different. 

Rather than fighting for a living or enjoyment, Thorfinn’s aim is revenge. When Thorfinn was a child, his father, Thors, was murdered by Askeladd. Thorfinn joined his band to become strong enough to challenge him to a duel and defeat him one day.

 However, Thorfinn begins questioning his actions and dreams after growing up with Askeladd’s band and spending much of his teenage years in blood and violence. Is revenge indeed the aim of Thorfinn’s life?

3. Demon Slayer (Koyoharu Gotouge, 2016 – 2020)

Also known as Kimetsu no Yaiba, this manga follows the story of Tanjiro Kamado, a young, kindhearted, hardworking boy who goes down the mountains in winter to sell coal and feed his family. One day, Tanjiro stays overnight in a man’s home. 

However, when he returns the next day, he finds his four siblings and mother brutally murdered. The only one to survive is his younger sister, Nezuko. When Nezuko attacks Tanjiro and a demon slayer named Giyu encounters them, Tanjiro discovers that his sister has been transformed into a demon. 

Tanjiro must find a cure to return Nezuko’s humanity while also taking revenge against the demon who slaughtered his family and turned Nezuko into a demon. Tanjiro begins training to become a demon slayer to go up against the most powerful demon in the world. Will Tanjiro hunt down his family’s murderer or die in vain?

2. Attack on Titan (Hajime Isayama, 2009 – 2021)

Also known as Shingeki no Kyojin, this series is set in a world where Titans emerged centuries ago. These titans are gigantic, and they crush and devour humans.  

Most of the world’s population was killed by them, but the last of the few humans left settled in a place located within three protective walls.

These walls were tall enough to prevent Titans from entering, so humans lived peacefully for years inside of these walls until one day when a 60-meter-tall Titan broke the wall and entered. Three children, Armin, Eren, and Mikasa, experienced the trembling fear of being dominated by Titans. Eren even watched his mother be devoured in front of him. Everything was stolen from them. 

A few years later, Eren joins the Survey Corps, the military which goes outside the walls to fight against Titans. Eren is determined to kill all the Titans so humanity can once again freely live outside the walls. 1. Berserk (Kentaro Miura, 1989 – 2021 & Kouji Mori, 2022 – Present)

Berserk is a dark fantasy manga that revolves around the protagonist, Guts. Guts were born after falling from the womb of his mother’s hanged body.
